The 8 Best Ski Areas Near Dutchess County

Where can you ski in the Dutchess County area? Take your pick! Winter is simply magical here in the Hudson Valley…and if you’re a skier or snowboarder, this is the time to enjoy the snowy terrain at  one of our five favorite local mountains, all within a 30-90 minute drive from the Sleight Farm new home community. We’ve listed them here in order of their proximity to LaGrange, NY:

Thunder Ridge Ski Area

A wonderful, family-friendly ski area with 22 trails, 3 chairlifts and 4 magic carpets.
Mohawk Mountain Ski Area
46 Great Hollow Rd, Cornwall, CT
34 miles from the LaGrange area
Mohawk offers 26 trails on 5 triple chairlifts and 3 magic carpets, and a summit elevation of 1600 feet.
Victor Constant Ski Area at West Point

The Army’s oldest ski area is a hidden Hudson Valley gem, especially for beginners and anyone who doesn’t want to break the bank for an afternoon of skiing.
Catamount Ski Area

Located in the Berkshires right on the border between New York and Massachusetts, Catamount is a well-loved destination for skiers and snowboarders of all levels. Their kids programs are particularly excellent. With 36 trails, a terrain park, two lodges, special events, live entertainment, and more, it’s well worth the drive from Dutchess County.
Hunter Mountain

Hunter appropriately bills itself as “the closest big mountain to NYC.” With four separate mountain faces, it delivers a great experience for skiers and riders of all levels.
Ski Butternut

A winter sports staple since the 1960’s, Butternut offers 100 acres of terrain served by 11 lifts for skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing.
Mt. Peter

Mt. Peter is known for their free beginner ski and snowboard school, a popular terrain park, well-respected racing and development programs, and a cozy family vibe.
Belleayre

Last but never least, Belleayre is a state-owned family-friendly mountain in the sweet spot of the Catskills. Eight lifts (including a gondola) will get you access to long trails for cruising, moguls and steeps for thrills, terrain parks, and picturesque glades. You’ll also find 50km of cross-country trails.
